Beeeeeeeeach!

On Wednesday afternoon, the only beautiful NY day this week, we went out to Fire Island and let Shio and his fur-cousin, Lucas, run to their hearts content on the beach. Only stipulation was that one leash was tied to both dogs because we weren't sure if Lucas' recall would be up to par. My sister said that they haven't tested him off leash in an open area so I didn't want to take any chances!

We enjoyed the beach so much that we went back a second time that day! My niece, Lucas, Shio and myself caught the beautiful sunset next to the TWA Flight 800 memorial on the beach.

My niece adorably wrote the dog's names in the sand:

Here they are standing next to their names:

We let the dogs run around but when we reached crowded areas, we leashed the dogs back up. My niece is a natural at walking two excited pups down the beach's shoreline! See the memorial's flags in the background? After a long and fun day, Shio passed out at home!

Shio vs. Thunderstorms

Currently, we are experiencing torrential rain in NYC with thunder loud enough to set off car alarms. An hour earlier, it was hailing and it sound like someone was throwing rocks against our windows. All this while Shio slept through it all. He's a quirky little Shiba, but I'm glad that he doesn't have a fear of loud sounds right now.

Me, on the other hand, will jump five feet vertically in the air every time I hear a loud boom from the thunder. what can I say... I'm a wimp!

Stranger Danger!

I'm not gonna lie and say that Shio is awesome when it comes to meeting new people. We normally get a mixed bag of reactions depending on the stranger.

Here's a breakdown of the 2 usual reactions:

1. The "parallelogram"

Shio is curious about the new person but maintains his distance. He makes sure that he's a foot away from the new person and leans as far as he can to sniff them. Thus, the parallelogram shape of his body and legs. But when the stranger reaches out to pet him on his back, he runs away.

2. The "woo-woo-wooooo"

Shio does not like or is threatened by this new person. Starts circling them with a 2 foot buffer distance while barking at them. Thus, the "woo-woo-woooooo" sound.

Apparently, our Shiba took the "Stranger Danger" classes before coming to our home!
