Verve Pop-Up in Williamsburg

We have been big fans of Verve coffee for a long time, but only based on beans we have ordered online. Because they are based out west, we have never had the chance to enjoy their coffee in one of their own shops.

Not anymore! We saw this a couple of weeks ago and immediately jumped on the opportunity -- in fact we were there the day before they were officially opened.

We decided to bring the pups back there this week after a short walk in the area. We love the decor there and the coffee is really good.

By the way, they have their Gesha coffee on pre-order right now -- and boy those are ridiculously good. If you are a coffee fan, do not miss out on trying some.

Finding a GREAT Dog Walker

It wasn't our intent to hire a dog walker when we moved out to Brooklyn since I would be home to care for the pups. It was an extra expense and it also required someone to hold the key to our front door. Based on our experience with our previous dog walker in Manhattan, we had little motivation to find a new one.

You may recall that back in April 2012 when Emi and Shio were sick, I was stuck in full days' worth of classes and wasn't around to take them out. We were forced to find someone to take them out. By then we already lived in our Brooklyn neighborhood for a year and I interacted with many walkers in the dog run and spoken to many dog owners about what they thought of each dog walker. I also scoped out referrals through the neighborhood vets and independently owned pet stores. In the end, we used our very good Shiba owner friend's dog walker and never regretted our decision. Our dog walkers are hands down the most fabulous people and we would could sing praises all day on their work ethic.

They are also trainers by trade. I'm most impressed not by the way that all their dogs are well behaved and sitting when they stop and go, but by their sacrifice and commitment to their profession. I've met many walkers in NYC treat this job similar to a wait service position - a place to earn money while they pursue an artistic or acting career. In contrary, our dog walkers are focused only on walking and training. They are our through all inclement weather conditions and work even during their days when they're sick. In two years, I've never seen them take a day off for vacation or make excuses.

We're very lucky to have them in our neighborhood and hope that everyone is as fortunate as we were. Searching for a trustworthy person with your beloved pet is a task that requires time so research and interview well before you need a pet sitter or walker.

Foster by Chance, Adoption by Choice

It's our two year anniversary of when our first and only foster, Goo Goo 2, arrived at our home. Just like all else in life, time flew by after we adopted her and gave her a new name to her new life: Emi.

The timing for her foster came just at the right time. We had the extra square footage and time for a temporary dog. Looking back, we were lucky to have a well-behaved foster dog albeit with self-confidence issues. In the end though, the decision to adopt her was ours and we never regretted it.

Without a doubt in my mind, we wouldn't have been able to find such a great Shiba to fit into our lives if we actively searched for one. In the act of doing something good for the Shiba society, we selfishly fell in love.

Much love to all the foster families and rescues out there. Without all of you, dogs and families would not reach their happy homes.

More Beach Playtime

What a beautiful day we had today - perfectly cool weather for the pack to hit the beach.

The non-shibas were more than happy to dip their paws into the water; of course, the shibas stayed as far away as possible.

Shio and Nami are really getting along nicely. They are always chasing each other and playing tag.

All in all a great day for everybody.
