Since everybody (humans and shibas) had such a good time last week, we decided to venture to another part of Fire Island this weekend.
The pups were super excited, as usual. They also were very good at getting on and off the ferry, and probably knew that fun was waiting at the end of the ride.
Once at the beach, the pups played and played and played. The weather was perfect: not too sunny, not too hot, and slightly breezy.
Shio found a white plastic ball -- one that he ended up loving. He would chase after it every time we threw it. When, by accident, the ball rolled close to the wavefront, a very funny sequence happened...
True to their nature, none of the shibas wanted to get wet. Shio was actually very brave, but got wet that one time. After that though, he learned to time the waves and knew how to go get the ball without getting wet. We were all very impressed.
We went to Ocean Beach to get some lunch, and hung out for a while before heading back to Ocean Bay for the ferry back to Long Island.
On the way back, Emi got so thirsty that she even drank out of the plastic bottle (she never does!).
All in all, another great day.

Can't believe we have not previously taken the pups to Fire Island.
It is absolutely fantastic.
The ferry ride was the first time the pups have been on a boat. They were totally fine. Shio enjoyed the breeze and the smell of the ocean.
Shio and Nami are really getting along now. They played together a lot, shared snacks and water... It's amazing how accommodating Shio is once he accepts a dog as part of his pack.

P.S. The VSCO Film Pack 4 really packs a punch!
With the heat wave that we have been experiencing in NY, we have been trying to find creative ways for our shibas to cool down.
Last week, we came across this recipe for dog ice-cream from Dog Milk (via our Pack e-mail).
We could not find coconut butter, so we made our own using coconut chips and a bit of olive oil to help with the blending.
Of course, they loved it.

Post Sandy, we have not been able to find a dog-friendly beach for our pups to run around at. Luckily, Nami's pawrents knew of a place.
The beach was definitely dog-friendly, but it was a little dirty -- at least the part that was closest to the parking lot.
Shio and Nami had a lot of fun sniffing and investigating the seaweed and the trash though.
Luckily, as we walked further away, the beach got cleaner. Emi also relaxed and started running around.
Shio wanted to show Nami his affection for her by digging her a big hole.
The heat got to be pretty unbearable though. After about an hour, we headed back to the car (and air conditioning!).
All in all, a pretty good morning!
